Superb themed garden uses Senna artificial grass

The Olive Tree Garden Company is a landscaping company based in Royston, Hertfordshire, covering other areas including Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Cambridgeshire. Ben Holt, owner, has been landscaping for over 10 years and welcomed the challenge of a recent project with very specific client requirements.

Ben says, "The client came to me with a vision of creating 3 very distinct zones in their long but narrow garden". The customer wanted to create an Ibiza zone where lighting, music and soft furnishings would create a chill out vibe. This phase of the garden will actually be finished in the new year. Ben continues, "Further up the garden there is a staggered screen fence of Corten steel panels that brings you 'into England'. This part of the garden has Senna artificial grass, from Perfectly Green, with some gentle curves creating a quintessentially English lawn flanked by mixed planting".

One of the highlights of this part of the garden is the traditional wall constructed from ‘Barn blend’ bricks. It was constructed in a Flemish bond with white lime mortar and with an arch to make it feel like a traditional walled garden. There are some spike lights hidden amongst the foliage that create a lovely ambience in the evening, projecting shadows from architectural planting such as Fatsia Japonica onto a newly installed fence. Further on is the 'Greece zone', a haven that transports the client back to family holidays in Crete and Santorini with crazy paved courtyards, white washed walls and pastel blue doors..jpg)

Ben says, "The garden room was undertaken by another company that we worked alongside. Blue bi-fold doors are reminiscent of those old Greek tavernas with a modern twist. We used grey Indian sandstone to create a crazy paved patio and pointed it with a white ‘brush in’ grout". The wall has been rough rendered and painted white to really set up a Mediterranean vibe and create a warm courtyard feel punctuated with colour from a purple clematis which will be trained along the wall.

A water feature set into the wall gives this zone the calming sound of trickling water all set amongst some planting of grasses and a beautifully gnarled olive tree whilst the garden room offers a fully functioning kitchen, office, living room and shower with a utility cupboard. The addition of an outdoor kitchen/barbecue area will come in phase 2.
