Existing suitable base - tarmac, concrete or base already laid for current pitch
Step 1 | Make good any defects in surface - holes, cracks, dips |
Step 2 | Ensure suitable permeability. It’s not recommended to install grass on an existing surface which is not porous or will not allow drainage. A sloped surface will be ok, allow for water to escape from the lowest edge. A level surface can be made permeable by drilling holes into it. |
Step 3 | A 10mm play pad is recommended |
Step 4 | A sand and rubber crum infill is required for 3G surfaces - check product specification tab for infill rate |
Step 5 | Ensure that joining tape and glue products are suitable for the project |
Step 6 | If using white /coloured line material install as per instructions. |
Step 7 | Discuss the above steps with your contractor |
Small pitches - base required
Step 1 | Depending on soil type, remove 100mm to 200mm of soil |
Step 2 | If soil has poor drainage install a herringbone drainage system which feeds into a soakaway. If the soil is well draining this requirement is not necessary |
Step 3 | Install suitable edging to the area to retain sub base materials |
Step 4 | Install free draining, compacted, stable base using suitable aggregate materials |
Step 5 | The top surface may be compacted sharp sand, granite dust, or pourous tarmacadam |
Step 6 | A 10mm play pad is recommended for 2G surfaces |
Step 7 | A sand and rubber crum infill is required for 3G surfaces - check product specification tab for infill rate |
Step 8 | Ensure that the joining tape and glue products are suitable for the project |
Step 9 | If using white /coloured line material install as per instructions. |
Step 10 | Discuss the above steps with your contractor |

Care and maintenance
Dura3G
This care and maintenance info sets out basic requirements for your new artificial grass sports or games surface. It is important to ensure the guidelines are followed, so to ensure you get the most enjoyment from the surface, that the lifetime and performance of the surface is maximised. Synthetic turf systems are not maintenance free, they are low maintenance.
Step 1 | Maintenance of the artificial surface is crucial to ensure maximum performance and enjoyment of the multi-use pitch. During the course of normal use the infill can be dispersed and the grass blades flattened so maintenance is required to redistribute the infill and lift the pile. A drag brush/compact tractor unit is required for this work |
Step 2 | Regular removal of leaves and litter will help to ensure that the surface and infill is not contaminated, leading to issues with drainage and performance |
Step 3 | Quarterly treatment for moss and weeds is recommended, using water based products. Once the treament has been applied all dead matter should be removed to avoid issues with drainage and performance |
Step 4 | Inspect the surface for damage and pay particular attention for any signs of roll joins opening up. Early remedial work is important where necessary |
Step 5 | Where paint has been applied to create lines, reapply as required. |
