A 3G pitch is a synthetic surface which consists of three components - synthetic turf, sand infill and rubber crumb infill. The pile height of a 3G pitch is typically between 30 and 60mm, with the infill rate determined by the pile height. Sports played on these types of surfaces are generally football, rugby union, and rugby league for example. 3G pitches are often installed with an additional lower 8-10mm shock absorbent play pad to meet certain performance and testing criteria such as BS-EN, FIFA, World Rugby and RFL. Some on-going maintenance is required to manage the infill.
