    Installation guidance

Existing suitable base - tarmac, concrete or base already laid for current pitch
Step 1Make good any defects in surface - holes, cracks, dips
    Step 2

Ensure suitable permeability. It’s not recommended to install grass on an existing surface which is not porous or will not allow drainage. A sloped surface will be ok, allow for water to escape from the lowest edge. A level surface can be made permeable by drilling holes into it.

Step 3A 10mm play pad is recommended
Step 4A sand dressing is required for 2G surfaces - check product specification tab for infill rate
Step 5Ensure that joining tape and glue products are suitable for the project
Step 6If using white /coloured line material install as per instructions. If using white/coloured line paint use product suitable for artificial grass
Step 7Discuss the above steps with your contractor

    Small pitches - base required
Step 1Depending on soil type, remove 100mm to 200mm of soil
Step 2If soil has poor drainage install a herringbone drainage system which feeds into a soakaway. If the soil is good draining this requirement is not necessary
Step 3Install suitable edging to the area to retain sub base materials
Step 4Install free draining, compacted, stable base using suitable aggregate materials
Step 5The top surface may be compacted sharp sand, granite dust, or pourous tarmacadam
Step 6A 10mm play pad is recommended for 2G surfaces
Step 7Ensure that the joining tape and glue products are suitable for the project
Step 8If using white /coloured line material install as per instructions. If using white/coloured line paint use product suitable for artificial grass
Step 9Discuss the above steps with your contractor

    Care and maintenance

    Match 18

This care and maintenance info sets out basic requirements for your new artificial grass sports or games surface. It is important to ensure the guidelines are followed, so to ensure you get the most enjoyment from the surface, that the lifetime and performance of the surface is maximised. Synthetic turf systems are not maintenance free, they are low maintenance.

Step 1Maintenance of the artificial surface is crucial to ensure maximum performance and enjoyment of the multi-use pitch. During the course of normal use the infill can be dispersed and the grass blades flattened so maintenance is required to redistribute the infill and lift the pile. A drag brush/compact tractor unit is required for this work
Step 2Regular removal of leaves and litter will help to ensure that the surface and infill is not contaminated, leading to issues with drainage and performance
Step 3Quarterly treatment for moss and weeds is recommended, using water based products. Once the treament has been applied all dead matter should be removed to avoid issues with drainage and performance
Step 4Inspect the surface for damage and pay particular attention for any signs of roll joins opening up. Early remedial work is important where necessary
Step 5Where paint has been applied to create lines, reapply as required.

2G Sports Surfaces: Versatile Multi-Sport Solutions from Perfectly Green

At Perfectly Green, we understand the importance of selecting the right artificial grass surface for your sports facility, whether it’s for schools, community centres, or sports clubs. Our 2G synthetic sports surfaces are an ideal choice for a wide range of applications, offering durability, performance, and versatility. We proudly supply a range of 2G products, including MUGA 13Leisure ColoursMatch 18, and Match 22, each designed to meet the specific needs of different sports and activities.

What is a 2G Sports Surface?

2G sports surfaces are synthetic turf systems typically filled or dressed with sand. These surfaces are designed to provide a firm and stable playing area suitable for various sports, including hockey, tennis, and general multi-use games. The sand infill helps to stabilise the turf and improve ball control, making it a popular choice for multi-sport facilities.

    Advantages of 2G Sports Surfaces

Leisure Colours multi sports pitchMulti-Sport Versatility
2G surfaces are highly versatile, making them ideal for multi-use games areas (MUGAs). They can accommodate a wide range of sports, including hockey, tennis, netball, and football. This versatility ensures that your facility can cater to different sports without the need for multiple specialised surfaces.
    Durability and Longevity
Designed to withstand heavy use, 2G surfaces are highly durable. The sand infill helps to maintain the integrity of the turf, ensuring it remains in excellent condition even after years of regular play. This makes 2G surfaces a cost-effective investment for schools and sports clubs.
    Enhanced Ball Control
The sand infill in 2G surfaces provides a firmer base, which enhances ball control and predictability. This is particularly beneficial for sports like hockey, where precision and consistency are key to performance.
    Low Maintenance
2G sports surfaces require minimal maintenance compared to natural grass. Regular brushing to redistribute the sand and occasional topping up of the infill are generally sufficient to keep the surface in top condition.
    All-Weather Usability
One of the major advantages of 2G surfaces is their ability to remain functional in various weather conditions. Unlike natural grass, which can become muddy and unplayable in wet conditions, 2G surfaces provide a reliable playing area year-round.

    Applications of 2G Sports Surfaces

    Schools and Educational Facilities
2G surfaces are ideal for schools and educational facilities, offering a safe and durable surface for physical education classes and extracurricular sports. Their multi-sport capabilities make them perfect for facilities that host a variety of sports.
    Community and Sports Clubs
For community centers and sports clubs, 2G surfaces offer the flexibility to host multiple sports on a single surface. This maximises the use of the facility and provides members with a high-quality playing area.
    Public Play Areas
2G surfaces are also suitable for public play areas, where durability and low maintenance are essential. These surfaces can handle the wear and tear of constant use, making them a practical choice for community spaces.

    Installation of 2G Sports Surfaces

    Site Preparation
Proper site preparation is crucial for a successful installation. This includes leveling the ground, ensuring proper drainage, and laying a stable sub-base.
    Laying the Turf
Once the sub-base is prepared, the synthetic turf is rolled out and cut to fit the area. The seams are then joined, and the edges are secured.
    Sand Infill
After the turf is laid, sand is evenly distributed across the surface to infill the grass. This helps to weigh down the turf and keep the fibres upright, providing a stable and durable playing area.
    Final Inspection
The surface is thoroughly inspected to ensure it meets the required standards. Any adjustments to the sand infill are made to achieve the desired playing characteristics.

    Aftercare for 2G Sports Surfaces

Maintaining a 2G sports surface is straightforward, but regular care is essential to ensure longevity:
    • Brushing: Regular brushing helps to keep the sand evenly distributed and the turf fibres standing upright.
    • Infill Top-Up: Over time, the sand infill may need to be topped up to maintain the surface’s performance.
    • Cleaning: Remove debris and litter regularly to prevent damage to the turf.
    • Professional Inspection: Periodic professional inspections can help identify any potential issues early and keep the surface in optimal condition.
